Promotion of Women Entrepreneurship
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in ChennaiWith the support of United Way Chennai, we are implementing a transformative initiative to promote women’s entrepreneurship in urban slum areas.
Vyasarpadi, one of Chennai’s largest slum clusters, is home to migrant and low-income families. Many women here face extreme challenges, including poverty, unemployment, and lack of education. With men often struggling with substance abuse, women become the primary earners, yet they lack access to stable incomes.
Through this initiative, we empower women with vocational skills, helping them secure employment or start micro-enterprises, leading to long-term financial independence.
Launched in October 2024, this initiative focuses on equipping women from below the poverty line, single mothers, and vulnerable groups with income-generating skills in:
Impact & Beneficiaries
✅ Single mothers
✅ Widows & destitute women
✅ Adolescent girls from disadvantaged backgrounds
Training & Skill Development
📌 120 women trained in household cleaning product making
📌 40 women trained in tailoring
📌 20 women trained in Aari work & hand embroidery
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment) by enhancing the economic and social status of urban slum women.
With the right opportunities, these women can transform their lives and build a sustainable future.
Together, we create change!
